Trails

An updated winter park guide is now available! Ask park staff for more information about designated winter use areas for hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

Cross-Country Ski Trails are not in good skiing condition at this time. Hikers should not hike on the ski trails if they are snow-covered.

Hiking and Snowshoeing Trails: The Forest Management and Indian Mounds Trail and the Red Bird Trail to the Indian Mounds Trail is designated for hikers and snowshoers. Remember, hiking and snowshoeing is not allowed on cross-country ski trails when snowcovered.

Snowmobile Trails: To determine if snowmobile trails are open, call (920) 849-1494.

Horse/Bike Trails are closed for the season. They will reopen May 1.

A reminder to pet owners . . .

  • Pets are not allowed on snowcovered ski trails.
  • Your dog must be kept on a leash and under control at all times.
  • You are responsible for removing and properly disposing of your pet's waste.

Camping

The road to the family campground is closed through March 31, 2010. Primitive camping is allowed in the group campground area. These sites are non-electric, and the same occupancy rules and fees that apply to family campsites will apply to the group sites through March. Call the park for details. Only vault toilets are available in the campground and water can be obtained at the park office.

When the park office is closed, campers must use the self-registration pay station near the park office to pay for camping and vehicle admission fees.

Reservations are recommended for electric sites April through October and all weekend camping May through October. You may reserve a site by calling (888) WI PARKS (888) 947-2757, TTY (800) 274-7275) or by using the Web.

Road Closures

The road to the family campground is closed just beyond the Group Campground entrance road through March 31, 2010. In addition, the road to the Marina is not maintained for winter use. Any questions and/or concerns, call the park office.

Office Hours

The Park office hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through March 31, 2010. Please note, the park office could close without notice due to limited staffing. Call ahead if you require personal service.

Park Events

The annual Candlelight Ski/Hike will be on Saturday, February 6, 2010, from 5 to 8 pm. A complete list of upcoming park events can be found on the park web site.

Hunting

The only hunting allowed in the park is muzzleloader hunting by permit only during the regular November gun deer season .

Seasonal Boat Slip Rental

The Harbor Commission is now accepting applications for 2010 seasonal boat slip rentals. The marina has over 100 slips available for rent. Contact the Harbor Commission for more information.

Volunteer Opportunities

Mark your calendars! Saturday, April 24, 2010 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) is the Annual Arbor Day Tree Planting and Spring Park Clean Up Day. A state park vehicle admissions sticker is not required for registered volunteers and the Friends Group provides lunch. Groups are encouraged to call ahead.

High Cliff also is looking, mid-April through December, for individuals or groups to volunteer to remove invasive species including garlic mustard, buckthorn, honeysuckle, autumn olive and Japanese knotweed. If you have a current Commerical Pesticide License, even better! Contact the Park Invasive Species Coordinator for more information.
