Duration: Job starts approximately July 9, 2007

Job Description: Assist the Region Urban Forestry Coordinator in assisting local governments, planning commissions, citizen action groups and developers to direct efforts toward urban forestry planning and management activities. Assist communities in developing or improving long-term, successful urban forestry programs. Assist in administering and evaluating the urban and community forestry assistance grant program. Provide technical and educational training to foresters, mayors and other elected and appointed officials. Assist with the implement of urban forestry awareness through the promotion of Tree City USA, Arbor Day and Forest Appreciation week.

Knowledge Required: Tree physiology, arboriculture, urban forestry management strategies and procedures, and cultural requirements and management guidelines for individual shade tree species in Wisconsin municipalities; training techniques and information transfer to professionals, community officials, business leaders, volunteers and the general public; computer based systems for information management and exchange; effective oral and written communication skills, inter-personal and team skills; and state-level urban forestry programs, goals, objectives, assessment, strategic planning and implementation; financial assistance and program administration.
