Title: HYDROGEOLOGIST Contact: Kevin D. Mcknight Location: Oshkosh Service Center, 625 E County Road Y, Suite 700, Oshkosh, WI 54901 Telephone Number: (920) 424-7890 Hourly Rate: Between $12.00 - $16.00 per hour depending on experience and training. No benefits are included. Duration: Job starts approximately December 1, 2009 Job Description: Position will be responsible for reviewing DNR environmental case files associated with Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WDOT) activities and other assigned cases to determine current status of a site. Tasks associated with this activity include discussions with responsible parties (owners of tanks or impacted properties) and their consultants to assist/direct them in making progress toward remediation and ultimate closure of their site. Information/reports received on a particular site are reviewed and evaluated against current guidelines and accepted standard practices for conducting environmental investigations. The position will be responsible for drafting letters responding to information and/or report submittals, either approving the work proposed or recommending changes to the approach. Contacts occur on a daily basis with co-workers, consultants, WDOT, owners of tanks and impacted properties, and the general public. Position will be responsible for evaluating sites for closure and making determinations as to whether the site has been adequately remediated to the extent practicable. Sites that are ready for closure will need to be brought to the Region's monthly closure meeting or fast-tracked for closure.
Knowledge Required:
Position requires good oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills as they relate to working with others as a team. Potential applicants must have knowledge based upon experience or course work in geologic and hydrogeologic principles with a general background in the natural sciences. A driver's license is required or a form of transportation.
