National Astronomy Day

Merrick SP information

Located along the lazy Mississippi River and surrounded by the hills of Wisconsin's Coulee Region, the 322-acre Merrick State Park is popular with anglers and boaters. The marshy backwaters are home to a variety of fish, birds, animals and plants. Rising and falling river levels, though controlled some by dams, are part of the natural environment.

Candlelight Hike

Hike a 1.1-mile trail that is illuminated by LED solar lights at your own pace. Naturalists will be in the building with free Earth Day crafts for kids. There will be hot beverages and snacks for sale benefiting the Kettle Moraine Natural History Association (Friends Group). Meet at the McMiller Ski Trails, Hwy NN, south of Eagle.

Kettle Moraine SF - Southern Unit information

More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.

Frog Safari

If you are a frog fanatic, you will want to join us for this nocturnal trip to the park's kettle ponds. We'll listen for spring peepers, wood frogs, and chorus frogs. We'll also explore what other night sounds we can hear as we hike the Johnson Moraine Trail. Bring your flashlight as we'll be hiking right around dusk. Meet at the Steinke Basin parking lot.

Devil's Lake SP information

Founded in 1911, Devil's Lake is the third oldest state park in Wisconsin, the largest, and the most visited. Devil's Lake offers magnificent views from 500-foot quartzite bluffs overlooking a 360-acre lake. Enjoy lakeshore picnic areas, sandy swimming beaches, 29 miles of hiking trails, or ease into the backcountry solitude. Devil's Lake is a beautiful year-round park with an intriguing natural history along the 1,000-mile Ice Age National Scenic Trail.

EARTH DAY HIKE: Eagle Panorama to Eagle Terrace

Time: 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Meet at Eagle Panorama, the overlook south of the site where Eagle Tower once stood. Walk a beech-maple forest, identifying trees. Learn about forest health issues and the latest news on rebuilding Eagle Tower. Bring binoculars if you have them. Counts as a Like to Hike activity (see below). Moderate hiking, about a mile, trail may be muddy.

Considered Wisconsin's most complete park, Peninsula offers 468 campsites, three group camps, a summer theater, an 18-hole golf course, sand beach, bike trails, a lighthouse and eight miles of Door County shoreline. The rollicking waves that skip towards Peninsula's sky high bluffs are part of the Niagara Escarpment.

Save the Monarchs: Earth Day Milkweed Planting Workshop

As monarch populations continue to decline, it is more important than ever to maintain habitat critical to their survival. Discovery Bird Hike

Location: Kohler-Andrae SP

Master Naturalists Janet & Andy Raddatz will lead a bird hike at Kohler-Andrae. Meet them at Black River Trail, parking lot P, to search for birds in the park. The hike will last about 2 hours. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. Bring binoculars and bird guides if available. The 2-mile hike is best for age 8 and older; children must be accompanied by an adult. Please, no pets on this hike. All vehicles will need a state park sticker.

The Spring Gathering of Friends of Interstate Park have invited Greg Olson and his animals to present a thought-provoking performance for all caring people. Geared toward adults but appropriate for kids! You don't want to miss it! Come early! Seating is limited. The program is free but a State Park vehicle sticker is required and may be purchased in the Ice Age Center.

Naturalist Colleen Tolliver will share a stories, songs and fun activities with pre-schoolers and their parents. A short activity following the story will reinforce the story's nature-related theme. Nature Storytime will generally last between 30-60 minutes, depending on the participants. Time will be spent outdoors, weather permitting. Dress for the weather; dress for fun!. Work Play Earth Day - Celebrate EARTH DAY by volunteering at your State Parks!

Celebrate EARTH DAY 2018 by volunteering at your Wisconsin State Parks, Forests, Trails and Recreation Areas!

Volunteers are needed to help clear brush and leaves from campsites and roadways, plant trees and pick up litter. Volunteers should wear work shoes/boots, long pants, and gloves. We will meet at the Bluewater Bay Campground Shelter where we will divide up into crews from there. The Friends of Mirror Lake will be providing an energy break part way through the morning. Individual and group efforts are all welcome! Children must be accompanied by an adult. Sign up is not required but appreciated for project planning. Sign up by calling the park at 608-254-2333.

Mirror Lake SP information

This park is named for its centerpiece, a lake which often is so Locationcalm that not a ripple marks its surface. The lake reflects a wooded shoreline with cliffs up to 50 feet high, a swimming beach, and wetlands that are home to a variety of wildlife. The park's 2,200 acres includes several picnic areas, wooded campsites, summer rentals, and a cabin for people with disabilities.

Animals Entrusted in our Care

Meet Jerry Theys, a rehabilitator from Wildlife of Wisconsin, and a few patients from their facility. We'll learn why these species need our help. Jerry uses a PowerPoint presentation, tells stories of patients, uses a skit and even has the audience play a guessing game. Three or four live animals will be in attendance. Meet at the Sanderling Nature Center. Children must be accompanied by an adult, no pets allowed.

Richard Bong SRA information

Once designated to be a jet fighter base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is fittingly named after Major Richard I. Bong, a Poplar, WI native who was America's leading air ace during World War II. The air base was abandoned three days before concrete was to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Local citizens had the foresight to protect this open space for future generations.
