Invasive Crusaders Volunteer Workdays

Looking for a way to spend more time outside, while contributing to a good cause? Our volunteers will assist staff with invasive species removal in a variety of the park's prairies and occasional site cleanups. Gloves and spades/tools will be provided for use, but feel free to bring your own! Please contact the park to sign up for our volunteer list and stay informed of any changes. Weekly Nature Walk

Horicon Marsh Education Center information

Horicon Marsh has been formally recognized as a Wetland of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention of the United Nations. This renowned marsh is now home to the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. The Wildlife Education Program has been conducted at the marsh since the mid-1980s. This program focuses on the abundant wildlife resources of the marsh, their ecology and applied management.

Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit information

The Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is in the middle of the Kettle Moraine, a strip of glacial landforms which extends through southeastern Wisconsin to Lake Winnebago. The forest is named after the 522-acre, spring-fed kettle: Pike Lake. Powder Hill, a large glacial kame, provides the opportunity for a great hike and view. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and much more within the forest.

Before the Hunt: An Evening with Nature

Before you head out to bag a pheasant, buck, or other quarry, join Wildlife Biologist Jackl to learn what work the DNR wildlife team undertakes to provide good habitat for game animals and wonderful hunting opportunities. He will explain the science that goes into determining hunting seasons, areas, and quotas. Warden Miofsky will also be on hand to share any changes to and answer any questions about the hunting rules and regulations. This program is most appropriate for people over the age of 10 years. Meet at the Ice Age Visitor Center (located off Hwy 67 half mile west of Dundee)

Devil's Lake Rocks!

Join the park naturalist for a hike up the east bluff of Devil's Lake State Park to learn about the park's unique geology and see the beauty the park has to offer. We'll spend the evening hiking the scenic east bluff and checking out some of the park's famous rock formations. This hike will be about 3 miles and is best for adults and children ages 10 and older. This hike is part of the Wisconsin Science Festival. Meet at the park's North Shore Visitor Center.

22nd Annual Fright Hike at Lapham Peak State Park

Each Halloween season, for two nights only, the beautiful, moonlit, paths of Lapham Peak State Park are riddled with ghosts and goblins. Walk the haunted trails, if you dare! Afterwards, enjoy live music and concessions by the bonfire. Fright Hike is a walk through the dark forest with scary scenes performed along a 1+ mile trail. Kettle Moraine SF - Lapham Peak Unit information

The Kettle Moraine and Lapham Peak were formed 10,000 years ago when a glacier covered much of Wisconsin. Lapham Peak's glaciated topography provides excellent hiking, backpacking, and cross-country skiing on lighted trails. Climb a 45-foot observation tower atop the highest point in Waukesha County (1,233 feet above sea level).

Halloween Nature Hikes

Look up for those things with wings! Traverse through the dark autumn woods to meet the fast-flying little brown bat,, the radiant scarlet tanager,the soaring turkey vulture, dazzling dragonfly, and many more. This is not a scary hike and is best for those over 5 years of age. Groups leave every six minutes. The last hour-long hike leaves at 8:30 pm. While waiting for your hike, enjoy playing fun-filled games, making a craft to take home, or snacking by the glow of a campfire. In the event of severe weather, the event will be canceled for that night. Location: Mauthe Lake Recreation Area (located off County Road GGG south of County Road SS near New Prospect)

Black River Trail Classic

Women's Walking and Wellness Program

Spend time in nature, get healthy, and train to walk the Empowered Women's Half-Marathon or 5k (Saturday, September 28) or a Willow River Trail Run--a 6.6k, 10.6k, or half-marathon-(Saturday, October 12). Weekly walking groups begin Saturday, June 8 at 8:30 a.m. at Willow River State Park. In addition to weekly walking groups, monthly programs--including yoga, healthy eating and meal planning, local foods, and other wellness programs--will be offered at the nature center.

This program is funded by an Allina Neighborhood Health Connection Grant to Gateway Arts and Wellness and is available to up to 10 community members, free of charge. Participants must commit to participate in at least 10 of the 20 sessions, which run Saturdays June 8 - October 19, 2019. Most sessions run from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

With nearly 3,000 acres of prairie, forests, and panoramic river scenery, Willow River State Park offers year-round recreation opportunities in western Wisconsin. The park is about five miles northeast of Hudson, and has a campground, a boat launch and a 400-foot beach and picnic area centered on 172-acre Little Falls Lake.

Drop in any time between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to discover something new about nature.

Havenwoods State Forest is Wisconsin's only urban state forest, featuring 237 acres of grasslands, woods and wetlands in the city of Milwaukee.
