Maps and GIS

Visitors can use their web browser to search for and download frequently-requested DNR geospatial data on the DNR GIS Open Data Portal. Most geospatial data available from this portal can be downloaded free of charge. However, in some cases, the portal provides users with links that redirect them to other sites that may charge a fee for data download or access.

DNR programs create and maintain a wide variety of geospatial data sets to support specific activities and services, and they may have different requirements for providing access to their data. If you can’t find what you need on the DNR GIS Data Portal, use the search bar on the DNR homepage to find topic-specific webpages that may include links to the geospatial data and/or contacts you need.

DNR Geospatial Data Format

DNR geospatial data is made available to the public in the standard formats, geographic extent and coordinate reference system in which it is maintained and used within DNR. DNR staff are not available to convert this data to other formats.

Coordinate Reference System

DNR’s geospatial data are provided in the Wisconsin Transverse Mercator (WTM) coordinate system of 1983 based on the 1991 adjustment to the North American Datum of 1983 (WTM83, NAD83 (1991). Conversion of GIS data from WTM83, NAD83 (1991) to other coordinate reference systems can be carried out using commercially-available GIS software.
