SHWIMS on the Web Disclaimers

Data Completeness:
SHWIMS on the Web is a good starting point for finding basic information about sites with activities regulated by the waste management program, but it is only a starting point. For sites with current or former waste management program activities, more detailed inquiries, or requests to review DNR files, may be directed to DNR staff by using the "Staff" link under "WM Basics" on our left navigation sidebar.

Sites Not in SHWIMS on the Web:
SHWIMS only contains information about waste activities at sites that DNR has knowledge of.

Data Sources:
SHWIMS data comes from various sources, both internal and external to DNR. Much of our information has been received from business/property owners, company environmental contacts, or consultants. There may be omissions and errors in the data, as well as delays in updating new information.

Data Not Shown:
SHWIMS on the Web shows almost every detail in our database. In some cases, it does not show personally identifiable information about individuals (names, phone numbers), but business and corporate names and telephone numbers are included.

Data Quality:
We do our best to keep SHWIMS on the Web up to date, but it is difficult. In particular, our contact information may not be up to date. For example, many types of active facilities are not required to submit annual updates of information to the DNR. Also, companies may no longer be operating at a site, but if this information was not communicated to the DNR, the site may still be shown in our records as being involved in waste activities.
